Charlottetown, May 29, 2023 - We are pleased to provide an update on the status of Calvary Church located at 9 Capital Drive, Charlottetown. We have submitted a proposal to the City involving the re-development of our property since sustaining heavy damage to our building from tropical storm Fiona.
Our plan is to not only build a new worship centre for Calvary Church, but the proposal also includes the construction of 2 apartment buildings. These buildings would have a total of 400 units, 50% of which are designed to meet CMHC's affordable housing guidelines.
One building will be designed for individuals aged 55+ and support independent wellness living. The second building will target families. Both buildings will be designed to significantly reduce the use and cost of utilities by following Passive House design standards intended to greatly reduce environmental impact.
We are praying that the City will see that this proposal not only helps rebuild our church, but it also supports the City's critical objective to create more affordable housing for the residents of Charlottetown. We look forward to receiving the City’s approval as soon as possible so that we may proceed with this exciting project.
